At the time the pair were locked in a custody dispute. The child they shared together was left unharmed at the homeless shelter, where Pease and the child had been transferred to from another in Washington.
They had reportedly fled from Washington to Minnesota to escape Marks, who had allegedly been physically abusive to Pease.
A woman, Kellee Sorenson, 34, has also been charged in connection with the case.
Sorenson told police that Marks claimed to have murdered Pease at an unknown location while she waited for him in the car.
The former MMA fighter allegedly told her he removed Pease’s hands and teeth so she could not be identified.
It’s understood that 11 years after her death, Pease’s body has never been recovered, however authorities believe she was disposed of somewhere in North or South Dakota.
Marks is charged with second-degree murder in Hennepin County, Minnesota.

Marks’ wife, Ginell McDonough, was charged with harboring him at a home in Michigan for several days after the killings.
Another woman, Maya Maxwell, is also charged in connection with the deaths of Scott and Swearingin.
